====== Aldus Manutius: The Struggle and the Dream ====== **8 January - 22 February 2015**, Proscholium, Bodleian Library (Broad St, Oxford OX1 3BG) Curated by Oren Margolis Aldus Manutius (c. 1450–1515) is a **towering figure** in the history of the book. He and his partners established the Aldine Press in Venice and his **legacy** includes the italic type, a number of first editions, and his trademark pocket-sized octavo volumes of classical Greek and Latin texts. This **display** to mark the 500th anniversary of his death tells the story of Aldus's remarkable career through books held in the **Bodleian**. This display is the centrepiece of a series of Aldine events in Oxford this winter. It also benefits from the work of **student curatorial assistants** whose own **one-day display** will be shown in the Proscholium on 6 February 2015. On **6 February** (5.30pm-6.30pm), at the Convocation House in the Old Bodleian Library, **Oren Margolis** discusses the mysterious **//Hypnerotomachia Poliphili//**, the exquisitely illustrated Renaissance book published in Venice by Aldus Manutius. **Reception** following hosted by the Centre for the Study of the Book and the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Neo-Latin Studies.
