How to Change the Type of an Entity

It may happen that in either manual cataloguing or automated data processing an entity is given the wrong type, for example a corporate body could have been marked as a place or similar). If you come across such a case it is necessary to correct the CT entry accordingly. However, this cannot be done simply by changing the entity type setting in the form-based editor, since this is taken into account only for new records - once a record has been saved and give…

How to use the form based editor

1. How to select and open the form based editor

There are currently three different editing clients available for the CERL Theaurus: a form-based editor, an editor using the Unimarc-based so called CT internal format (which was the internal format of the previous database system) and an editor showing the record in YAML (which is much closer to the current internal format).

How to merge records which have not been marked for deduplication

Each time a new file is added to the CERL Thesaurus, there is an algorithm running over the data and checking if there are records in the new data that would produce a duplicate entry for an entity already existing in the database. However, since there is sometimes very little information associated with either the new or the existing record, this alogrithm might miss a hit here and there. If you come across a duplicate entry in …

1 The CERL Thesaurus Web Interface

With its migration into the hosting environment, the current editing infrastructure consisting mainly of the WinADH editing client becomes obsolete and can no longer be used. All editing can now done via your web browser. This allows also users of non-Windows operating systems to edit the CT from their computers.

Diverted records from GND

This section dates back to the time before the PND has been integrated into the GND, but the principles described here still apply

Diverted records (Umlenkungssätze) are tagged with PND:diverted in 830 $6. If a record is marked as deprecated in the PND file, the corresponding field 801 will be removed from the CERL Thesaurus record. Thus, there can't be any further update to this record by the PND update mechanism.
